Student Internships & Fellowships
The GenHR internship is a competitive opportunity for student activists to expand their knowledge of human rights and to play an active role in a nationally renowned nonprofit. GenHR typically brings on interns three times per year (Spring, Summer, and Fall). Interns range from high school to graduate students. GenHR interns are highly valued and become an integral part of the organization’s daily operations and contribute significantly to the development of curricula and projects.
Student Internship Remote Fall 2024
Generation Human Rights (“GenHR”) is seeking a student intern to work remotely. The intern will provide programmatic and research support to several ongoing and potential future initiatives of the organization and will assist with additional tasks, such as social media curation, note taking, and prospect and grant research.
Potential projects include:
Finalizing and promoting outreach for the Imagine: NextGen Voices Reflect on Peace Curriculum. The curriculum was launched internationally in the Spring and Summer of 2022. Assisting in the creation of the next phase of the project Imagine: NextGen Voices Reflect on Peace Classroom to Classroom.
Helping to create and promote the next stage of unMASKing: The Pandemic Curriculum Project. The curriculum is currently being used in classrooms in over 31 countries.
Assisting in preparing for the final semester of the Millennium Villages Project Bus Tour. The tour, which involves a retrofitted school bus, travels around to schools across the country, prompting students to draw connections between their communities and impoverished communities around the world, through the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. The intern will conduct background research on the Sustainable Development Goals; identify potential tour stops along the East Coast; and contribute to development updates in the curriculum.
The intern will also conduct research for several human rights-based curricula created by GenHR. By offering educators around the world a free resource to introduce their students to a human rights framework and relevant issues, GenHR seeks to broaden ongoing education in the human rights sphere. The intern will contribute through conducting substantive research, developing multimedia project ideas, and contributing their own experiences.
The successful applicant will also have the chance to plan, conceptualize, and draft social media posts and attend and take notes at events and/or meetings on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications: This internship is open to full time university and high school students with a focus on human rights. Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable with an interest in human rights education. Applicants should be proactive and have excellent time management skills. Strong writing and research skills are essential.
The intern is expected to dedicate 3-5 hours per week to the internship. GenHR internships are unpaid.
